Twitter Hashtags Case Study: Social Brand Forum #SocialLyrics

POSTED BY Alicia Anderson - 10.29.13 - Social media, Case study

In preparation for Brand Driven Digital’s Social Brand Forum our team was searching for a fun, interactive way to promote our event sponsorship. We were excited to be a sponsor of such a great event and even more excited to attend. We knew not any old marketing materials or brand swag would do, so we decided to put our creative team to the test.

The Inspiration

StickerOf course we knew we were going to need stickers, who doesn’t love a good sticker!? Every company has a sticker with their brand logo, just look at every laptop or tablet in the Corridor. We wanted ours to stand out, so we came up with the idea to use song lyrics but replace the words with terms relevant to social media or brand marketing. We wanted to create a sticker that our fellow agencies could appreciate and our clients would enjoy. The conversations that ensued were ridiculous and awesome. Here are a few of our office favorites: “I like retweets and I cannot lie, you other brands can’t deny” a new take on the Sir Mix-a-lot classic and “Livin’ la vida social” shout out to Ricky Martin. Our favorite #sociallyrics and sticker to be was inspired by Jay-Z, “I got 99 problems but engagement ain’t one.”

Conference Hashtags

Every event or conference, especially in the marketing world, comes with its own hashtag. This enables attendees, vendors, and speakers to stay in touch and ensures that no one misses any of the action. If you’ve attended a conference in the last few years you know you’re guilty of refreshing that feed at least a few times a day to stay on the top of the latest Tweets. The Social Brand Forum was no different, they promoted the use of #Socialbrand13, short, succinct, and identifiable, it was a great choice! Once we had our stickers in hand, we were discussing ways to promote our brand and interact with conference attendees. This is how #SocialLyrics was born. It was the perfect way to attract attendees’ attention and encourage interaction with @fusionfarm on Twitter. Plus, it promoted our awesome stickers! We created table tents to spread the word about our hashtag and hopefully inspire attendees to compose their own #SocialLyrics tweet between speakers and during downtime.

The Results

We received 50 tweets using our hashtag from fellow attendees, organizers, and featured speakers! We made sure that all of our #SocialLyrics tweets also included the #SocialBrand13 hashtag which increased the exposure and reach. While users followed the latest conference updates from #SocialBrand13 they also came across our social lyrics. Inspiring some to participate and create their own! Here are a few of our favorite #SocialLyrics:
