A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to My Idea

POSTED BY Michael Zydzik - 08.31.12 - Creative

Every now and then you stumble upon something that challenges your current view of how you spend your time from 7:30 a.m. to around 5:30 p.m. Our industry tends to marvel in the next term du jour that makes us sound really, really smart in meetings or when speaking in front of an audience at yet another iteration of a multi-social-media-technology convention while wearing a super cool Janet Jackson headset.

What I have here is a time capsule. Something far ahead of its time featuring a lecture by John Cleese. Yes, that John Cleese – of Monty Python fame. In the 13-minute video, Cleese talks about the 5 factors that make your life more creative:

  1. Space
  2. Time
  3. Time (No, that's not a typo)
  4. Confidence
  5. Humor

Efficient and powerful, it's refreshingly straight forward, cutting through BS like a Hattori Hanzo sword. Cleese is truly an engaging speaker with some brilliance to shed on how to get to the next great idea. I'll let Cleese tell you how, because he's the main attraction in this post.

Let me know what you think and I'll get back to you. But for now I'm going to close my office door now and stream a Monty Python marathon.

Cheers, thanks a lot.
